Nashville service workers start new careers in light of COVID-19

United States, Tennessee, Nashville-davidson – 08-13-2020 ( — As bars and restaurants reopen with limited hours and capacity, many job seekers, who previously worked in the city’s bustling service and hospitality industry, find themselves competing for a scarce number of positions. Luckily, one assisted living provider opened its doors to displaced restaurant and hospitality workers last spring, and now, several of them have decided to stay and dedicate their lives to helping Nashville-area seniors. 

“We made a promise to our residents and their families to deliver chef-prepared meals, innovating activities, and premier care, even during COVID-19,” said Sheri Gibson, The Hearth’s Executive Director. “Hiring displaced workers was really a win-win for us, and I’m so excited that several of them decided to stay.”One such employee is Noah VanHoose, a member of Hearth’s culinary team. “Before COVID, I worked at two Hendersonville restaurants. I worked in high pressure kitchens since I was 15 years old and loved it, but, when the pandemic started, I lost both of my jobs,” said VanHoose. “When I found The Hearth, I immediately fell in love with the staff and residents. I planned on going back to at least one of my restaurant jobs after the shut down, but when the time came, I didn’t want to leave these amazing people.” VanHoose is one of several employees who have started a new career path in senior living thanks to the program. “My favorite part of the program is seeing young people find a new passion for helping seniors,” said Gibson. “Our residents absolutely love them, and we’re so glad they’re here.” Local Hearth Management communities include The Hearth at Franklin and The Hearth at Hendersonville.
