Spectra: The first low cost and open biomedical imaging device

United States, California, San Francisco – 04-16-2019 (PRDistribution.com) — Spectra, an open-source medical imaging kit has just been launched on Crowd Supply. Spectra brings open source biomedical imaging into the open with a development kit that is both safe and easy to use. It allows hackers and scientists to experiment with one of the technologies used in medical imaging — electrical impedance tomography (EIT). For the first time, anyone who wants to explore the fascinating world of medical physics can do so from their own home, without a multimillion-dollar CATSCAN.

Spectra can image lungs, monitor heart activity, and detect changes on materials like bones, tumors and strawberries. Since it can get a cross-section of whatever it’s wrapped around it’s also ideal for gestural recognition and could be used to help those with prosthetic limbs.  “This stuff isn’t easy,” says Spectra founder Jean Rintoul. “But we’re working hard to make medical imaging more accessible by lowering the barrier of entry and opening up the biosensor playing field, making it more approachable to anyone.” The Spectra team believes that the biggest challenges we face in understanding the body cannot – and should not – be solved by a single company, institution or field of science. The team believes that people from a variety of disciplines will make these discoveries through an open forum of shared knowledge and concerted effort. ?Spectra’s mission is to realise the potential of the open-source movement to accelerate innovation in medical imaging.   Media Contact                                                                                                                   ImagesJean Rintoul                                                                                                    ZIP on google drive[email protected]                    Ask about exclusive photos and other visual content

About the Author: Carrie Brunner

Carrie Brunner grew up in a small town in northern New Brunswick. She studied chemistry in college, graduated, and married her husband one month later. They were then blessed with two baby boys within the first four years of marriage. Having babies gave their family a desire to return to the old paths – to nourish their family with traditional, homegrown foods; rid their home of toxic chemicals and petroleum products; and give their boys a chance to know a simple, sustainable way of life. They are currently building a homestead from scratch on two little acres in central Texas. There’s a lot to be done to become somewhat self-sufficient, but they are debt-free and get to spend their days living this simple, good life together with their five young children. Carrie writes mostly on provincial stories.
