Award-Winning Singer Offers Free Throwback Recording of State Song for Nevada Day Celebrations

Five-time Pearl Award-winning professional singer/songwriter and native Nevadan, April Meservy really wanted to give back to her beloved home state this year. As part of a Nevada-centric music project, she has just released her second version of Nevada’s official state song, “Home Means Nevada” that is now available as a free download from her website, The song entitled, “Home Means Nevada (Sierra Sunset Mix)” is a lively, throwback version of Nevada’s beautiful state song which includes hints of jazz and western swing.

In Meservy’s own words, “Last year I felt a strong desire to record several versions of the state song that I grew up singing as a child. I decided to do a 3-song Nevada EP in an effort to sonically capture different musical snapshots of what Nevada feels like, sounds like, and represents to me.”

Meservy’s first release of this song was a different musical interpretation delivered as a vibey, folk ballad. This recording, “Home Means Nevada (Sage Mix)” is also available for free download from her website. Both songs can also be streamed on Spotify and Apple Music, or purchased on iTunes or Amazon.

April’s latest cover of a U2 classic, “With or Without You” is currently being featured in the Short Performance routine of Canadian pair figure skaters and two-time world champions, Eric Radford and Meagan Duhamel, in their bid this season for the 2018 Winter Olympics.

About the Author: Carrie Brunner

Carrie Brunner grew up in a small town in northern New Brunswick. She studied chemistry in college, graduated, and married her husband one month later. They were then blessed with two baby boys within the first four years of marriage. Having babies gave their family a desire to return to the old paths – to nourish their family with traditional, homegrown foods; rid their home of toxic chemicals and petroleum products; and give their boys a chance to know a simple, sustainable way of life. They are currently building a homestead from scratch on two little acres in central Texas. There’s a lot to be done to become somewhat self-sufficient, but they are debt-free and get to spend their days living this simple, good life together with their five young children. Carrie writes mostly on provincial stories.
